Hamengkubuwana IV, also spelled Hamengkubuwono IV (1804 – 1828) was the fourth sultan of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, reigning from April 3, 1814 - December 6, 1822, and then from August 17, 1826 - January 2, 1828.
His reign was a period of political deterioration that ultimately led up to the Java War. Upon his premature death, rumours circulated that he had been poisoned. His three-year-old son, Hamengkubuwana V, ascended the throne amid controversy over who would act as regent.[1]
